Reforms of regional education in the context of digital transformation: experience and prospects

A two-day republican seminar titled "Development of Regional Education and Implementation of Key Reforms" is being held, jointly organized by Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University and Nazarbayev University.

The seminar aims to enhance the strategic competencies of regional education leaders and to explore effective approaches for the development, implementation, and support of educational reforms. Emphasis is placed on integrating international experience and best practices into regional education systems.

Director of the Department of Advanced Training Programs of the Higher School of Education Zhanyl Zhontaeva made an opening speech, extending her best wishes for its successful outcomes.

In her keynote speech titled “Regional Educational Policy and Artificial Intelligence: Present and Future”, Beibitkul Karimova, Chair of the Board and Rector of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, highlighted the achievements to date and outlined the key priorities moving forward.

She emphasized: “Our goal is not merely to keep pace with technological progress, but to actively shape the future of education by enhancing its accessibility and effectiveness through the integration of artificial intelligence.”

She also noted the significant opportunities for regional development, stating: “Taking into account regional specificities and global trends, we see immense potential for the growth of IT and AI. Equipping future specialists with AI competencies across economic fields is vital, as the automation of business, education, and the broader economy hinges on advancements in IT and AI.”

She further added that the region’s well-developed transport infrastructure provides a strong foundation for exporting IT and AI services to neighboring countries over the next 10–15 years—an area where the demand for qualified specialists is expected to increase significantly.

Askar Yeszhanov, Head of the Kyzylorda Regional Department of Education, delivered a report titled “Advancing Regional Education and Implementing Key Reforms,” in which he addressed strategic approaches to educational development and the effective execution of reform initiatives at the regional level.  

In his speech, he provided an overview of the key developments and achievements in the field of education in Kyzylorda region over the past few years. Mr. Yeszhanov emphasized the integration of various artificial intelligence (AI) tools into the educational curriculum of regional schools. He highlighted the positive impact of these technologies on the quality of teaching and learning processes. In particular, he noted the effectiveness of AI tools in supporting students with special educational needs, pointing out that such technologies offer more personalized learning opportunities and help bridge learning gaps.

Dana Abdrasheva, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, delivered a presentation on the topic “Preparing Teaching Staff and Educational Leaders for the Digital Transformation in Education,” highlighting the importance of equipping educators and administrators with the skills and competencies required to navigate and lead in an increasingly digital learning environment. She addressed the anticipated threat of job shortages in the near future due to ongoing global transformations and technological advancements. She highlighted current trends in higher education, emphasizing the growing importance of digital literacy and the ability to work effectively with digital resources. The Vice Rector noted that leading countries in education are actively implementing a range of digital tools and AI technologies into their educational systems. She provided examples of the latest AI tools such as Brisk, EssayGrader.ai, CoGrader that can be used in teaching and learning. She underlined the necessity for academic staff to integrate these tools into teaching and learning processes, thereby ensuring that students are prepared for the demands of the future labor market.

In conclusion, Dana Meiramovna stressed that educational institutions must focus on preparing graduates who are capable of managing and utilizing artificial intelligence effectively, in order to achieve optimal results in their professional activities.

Director of the Department of Academic Affairs of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University Bayanali Doszhanov made a presentation on the topic “Preparation of teaching staff and heads of educational organizations for digital transformation in education”. He provided an overview of the university’s ongoing efforts to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its educational programs.

In his speech, the Director outlined the key steps taken to modernize the academic curriculum, emphasizing the incorporation of AI tools and platforms aimed at enhancing both teaching methods and student learning outcomes. He highlighted the introduction of AI-based systems for personalized learning, automated assessment, and data-driven decision-making in the educational process. Additionally, he noted the development and implementation of training modules designed to familiarize teaching staff and students with the practical use of AI in various disciplines.

Syrym Askarov, Director of the Kyzylorda Regional Educational and Methodological Center, conducted a workshop on “Mentoring for Teachers and the Integration of Digital Technologies.” In his session, he emphasized that methodological support for educators, as well as the operation of the creative platform for teachers, is carried out through initiative-based projects implemented by regional support organizations.

It is noteworthy that the seminar has brought together 86 delegates from across the country. The ideas and solutions presented over the course of the two-day event align with the evolving demands of the modern education system. Their effective implementation is expected to enhance the professional competencies of future educators and school leaders, while also contributing to the overall improvement of the regional education system.
