The city of Zhankent in the early Middle Ages is being explored

Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University together with the University of Tubingen (Germany) implemented the project "Formation and urbanization of the nomad state in the northern zone of the Great Silk Road: the city of Zhankent in the Early Middle Ages (the Aral Sea region, Kazakhstan)" from May 20 to 26.

In the laboratory of the Scientific Center for Archaeology and Ethnography, studies of animal bones discovered during excavations in the medieval city of Zhankent are conducted by Ashley Haruda, PhD, paleozoologist archaeologist from the University of Oxford. The study analyzes the types of domestic animals of the Middle Ages, the processes of change, additional hunting, fishing industry. As part of the project, the research will be continued in September.
