Symbat Syrlybaikyzy: "Kazakhstan and Korea have a lot in common"

A student of Korkyt ata Kyzylorda University, Symbat Syrlybaikyzy, is currently studying at Gangnam University in South Korea.

According to Symbat, before leaving for Korea, she intensively studied the Korean language and prepared for the TOPIK exam. "After seeing the announcement on the university's website, I collected the necessary documents. I consulted with Timur Ibraevich in the Department of International Relations. Inkar Khalievna, who previously studied under this program, helped us a lot. She shared her experience and gave directions for preparing for the program," said Symbat.

Having arrived in a new country, she admits, she faced some difficulties due to linguistic and cultural differences. "In the beginning, I felt lonely in a new environment. But over time, she adapted and, on the contrary, felt happy. The hospitality and kindness of the Korean people have helped me a lot.”

According to Symbat, universities in Korea create all conditions for students. "In addition to classes, there is an opportunity to participate in various clubs. I became a member of the Body Mentorship club, and I made new friends here. In my free time, I read books in the library or walk around the city. I admire the diligence of Korean students: they study all day and prepare in libraries until nightfall,” says Simbat.

According to Symbat, lectures at the university are especially impressive. "In particular, Professor Jeong Kyo Hyun's lectures on the discipline "Traditional Korean culture and content" are interesting. During the lesson, we compare the culture of Kazakhstan and Korea and identify similarities.”

Upon returning to Kazakhstan, Symbat wants to contribute to the development of the field of foreign languages. "I want to share my knowledge with young people and mentor future specialists. I also intend to serve as a professional translator at the Seoul Tech branch," she says.

Symbat told her Korean friends about the rich culture, nature and hospitable people of Kazakhstan. "When I spoke about the kindness and national cuisine of the Kazakh people, they said they wanted to visit Kazakhstan. Both students and professors show a special interest in our culture,” said Symbat.
