AI-Sana: How an innovative program shapes the future of artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan

On March 28 at the exhibition of artificial intelligence technologies AlmatyFair.ai 2025 the AI-Sana panel session was held, where experts and representatives of higher and postgraduate education in Kazakhstan discussed the main challenges and prospects for the development of AI education.

On behalf of the Head of State, the Government has launched the implementation of the AI-Sana innovation program aimed at training specialists in the field of artificial intelligence, which was announced following the results of the Astana Hub Demo Day on Artificial Intelligence on December 11, 2024.

The session was moderated by Aziza Shuzheeva, Chairman of the Technowomen Management Board, who in her opening remarks emphasized the importance of developing AI education.

Vice Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dinara Shcheglova presented the innovative AI-Sana program, and also demonstrated the achievements of the Ministry in creating an academic cluster in the country and integrating artificial intelligence into education and the role of "anchor" universities in the program. She noted that the zero stage of the AI-Sana program will cover 650,000 students and teach them basic knowledge in the field of AI, this stage has already started and will last until May this year.

Kamil Akatov, Chairman of the Board of the Science Foundation JSC, emphasized the Foundation's role in the implementation of the AI-Sana program, noting its readiness to introduce artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan. He also spoke about the modernization of the Fund's approaches to stimulating innovations aimed at developing the AI ecosystem in the country.

Rector of the Kazakh-British Technical University Maratbek Gabdullin spoke about the introduction of artificial intelligence into the educational process and stressed KBTU's readiness to train highly qualified specialists in this field. He noted that the university is actively adapting curricula, expanding research initiatives and developing partnerships with leading technology companies to create a modern AI ecosystem.

Raisa Uskenbayeva, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Satbayev University, presented the university's current initiatives in the field of training specialists in artificial intelligence. She stressed that the university is actively updating curricula, introducing advanced AI technologies into the educational process and developing cooperation with industrial partners to improve the level of graduate training.

Concluding the discussion, the moderator noted that Kazakhstan has all the possibilities for becoming an AI-Nation. She stressed that the development of AI education, the training of highly qualified personnel and the introduction of advanced technologies into the educational process will create a solid foundation for Kazakhstan to become one of the leaders in the field of artificial intelligence in the international arena.
