President of Seoul National University Delivers Keynote Address at Republican Seminar on “IT and AI Trends in South Korea”

The republican seminar on “Development of Regional Education and Implementation of Key Reforms,” jointly organized by Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University and Nazarbayev University, continued with a roundtable discussion focused on the effectiveness of integrating artificial intelligence into the education sector.

The republican seminar was attended by a delegation from the Republic of South Korea, led by Professor Dong Hwan Kim, President of Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech)—one of South Korea’s leading institutions in the field of artificial intelligence. Also in attendance were Rauza Mendaliyeva, Head of the Department of Internationalization of Higher and Postgraduate Education at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Beibutkul Karimova, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University.

In his presentation titled “IT and AI Trends in South Korea: Shaping the Future Through Innovation and Collaboration,” Professor Dong Hwan Kim, President of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, provided a comprehensive overview of South Korea’s development trajectory, highlighting its population of 51 million and the country's advanced industrial sectors within the context of globalization. He also introduced the history and current activities of SeoulTech—established in 1910—including its educational programs focused on advancing artificial intelligence technologies. Professor Dong Hwan Kim emphasized the effectiveness of continued investment in science and education, and outlined key technological trends in the IT and AI sectors in South Korea, particularly the rapid growth of intelligent robotics.

Dr. Taehee Kim, Vice Provost of the Council for International Cooperation at Seoul National University, presented her research on the structure of artificial intelligence curricula and the application of AI in the educational process during her report titled “Prospects of Kazakhstan–Korea Cooperation: AI Research and Workforce Development – From Vision to Implementation.”

She provided a detailed overview of key topics, including the structure and content of artificial intelligence disciplines, methodologies for integrating AI into the educational process, academic mobility initiatives, the implementation of a dual degree program. She expressed confidence that specialists trained under the dual-degree program between the two universities, which will be implemented from 2025 to 2029, will demonstrate strong performance in digital management and various infrastructure sectors, contributing significantly to the sustainable development of the Kyzylorda region.

The speakers expressed great confidence that the dual degree educational program between Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University and Seoul National University will strengthen cooperation in science and education between the two countries.

It is noteworthy that the seminar brought together 86 delegates from across the country. The ideas and solutions presented over the two-day event are aligned with the demands of the modern education system. Their effective implementation is expected to enhance the professional competencies of future educators and educational leaders, while also contributing to the overall improvement of the regional education system.
