The study of the historical heritage of the city of Zhankent is gaining momentum

Chairman of the Board – Rector of Korkyt ata Kyzylorda University Beibitkul Karimova, Director of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan Berik Abdigalievich, Deputy Akim of the region Shakhmardan Baymanov and Vice Rector for Research and International Relations Mainura Buribayeva visited the Zhankent campus of Kazaly district.

During the visit, the delegation got acquainted with the archaeological excavations carried out on the territory of the ancient city of Zhankent, as well as recently discovered historical and cultural artifacts.

Zhankent is a monument of history and culture of national importance. This is an object that plays a special role in the study of the history of medieval, including Turkic-Oguz tribes in Kazakhstan. In the 8th–12th centuries, Zhankent was one of the largest cities in the Syr Darya and served as the capital of the Oghuz Khaganate.

The excavations are carried out by the staff of the Scientific Research Center of Archeology and Ethnography of the University with the participation of domestic and foreign archaeologists.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for the implementation of joint scientific projects, issues of preserving the archaeological heritage and its museumisation. The discovered artifacts provide new information about trade relations, cultural life, and religious beliefs of medieval society.
