A republican scientific and practical conference titled «Shakhmaran Yesenov and his role in the development of science, as well as the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan» was held in Kyzylorda, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding scientist, Doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, academician, statesman and public figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Shakhmaran Yesenov.

At the opening of the event, the Deputy Governor of the region, Ardak Zebeshev, delivered a welcoming speech and subsequently chaired the session. During the event, there was widely discussed the scientific significance of Shakhmaran Yesenov's research and expeditions in the field of geology. Yesenov was a student of the renowned academician Kanysh Satpayev.

The conference was attended by state and public figures, Labor Heroes of Kazakhstan, prominent veterans of the oil and gas industry such as Uzakbay Karabalin, Lyazzat Kiinov, Anatoly Tegisbaev, academician Geroy Zholtaev, President of the oil company «South-Oil» Serikzhan Seitzhanov, and other industry leaders who shared their memories of this great personality.

The Vice-Rector for scientific work and international relations of the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, Mainura Buribaeva, delivered a substantive report on «Personnel Training and Science Development in the Oil and Gas Sector», emphasizing the university's strategic role in regional scientific and innovative development.

According to her, the university should become not only a center for personnel training but also a pillar of the region's scientific and innovative development. University scientists are implementing important projects such as bioremediation, environmental monitoring, energy saving, and waste processing in order to ensure the sustainable development of the oil and gas industry, preserve ecological balance, and digitize production processes.

Scientific reports concerning the oil and gas industry were also listened within the framework of the conference. The Director of the Kyzylorda regional branch of the republican public association «Veterans of the Oil and Gas Complex», candidate of technical sciences, Galym Baimanov, delivered a substantive report titled «Shakhmaran Yesenov in the Folk’s memory».

Expert Zhalgas Imanbaev spoke about new approaches to the development of hard-to-recover oil reserves in Kyzylorda region. The general director of «MunaiGazGeologService» LLP, Anuarbek Bigarayev, presented scientific data on the level of geological and geophysical exploration of the region and the oil and gas potential of the South Turgay hollow. The deputy director of the institute of polymer materials and technologies for scientific work, doctor of philosophy Marat Sagyndykov, presented the results of the pilot project «Downhole Fluid Segregation», conducted at a field in the region. At the conclusion of the event, several specialists who contributed to the development of the industry, were awarded.

Shakhmaran Yesenov is an outstanding figure who made an invaluable contribution to the development of the country's geological science. The first geological map of Kazakhstan at a scale of 1:1,500,000 was developed under his leadership. The scientist paved the way for the development of entirely new scientific directions, applying innovative methods without limiting himself to established norms in the search for mineral resources. Subsequently, his approaches were widely used by expeditions throughout the Soviet Union.

Shakhmaran Yesenov, who left a scientific legacy and made a deserved contribution to the country's development, remains an example for the current generation.

It should be noted that the sectional meetings of the conference continued in the 5th academic building of the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda university.
