An Oxford professor shows scientific interest in ancient settlements, located in Aral Sea region

The Chairman of the Board – Rector of the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, Beibitkul Karimova, received Oxford professor, Dr. Ashleigh Haruda.

Ashleigh Haruda, research head at the Archaeology centre of Oxford University, arrived in Aral Sea region with the aim of conducting zooarchaeological research at Zhankent ancient settlement. Remains of ancient, domesticated animals were discovered, and valuable artifacts were found during the expedition.

Mechanisms for the further joint implementation of a large-scale scientific project were discussed at the meeting. The Oxford professor, who with great interest researched medieval settlements and local fauna in Kyzylorda region, invited the university's management to scientific cooperation. The foreign archaeologist also expressed great hopes for the success of the above-mentioned project.

The Rector, in her turn, noted that this project will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to the expansion of not only Kazakhstan’s, but also the archaeological heritage of the entire world, as well as to a full understanding of the way of our ancestors’ life.

At the end of the meeting, representatives from both sides reached a mutual agreement and signed a contract for joint work.
