Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University researcher defends PhD in Germany

On November 11th, 2025, at the Faculty of Philosophy of Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Gulmira Temirbolatovna Amirgalina, a research associate at the Research Center for Archaeology and Ethnography of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation.

The dissertation research topic was: «Ceramics of the early medieval settlement of Zhankent in a regional context».

The object of the research included the ceramic complex of Zhankent settlement, as well as the techniques and technology of ceramic production.

The main scientific supervisor was Professor Dr. Heinrich Härke (Germany, Tübingen).

The second scientific supervisor was Professor Dr. Natascha Mehler (Germany, Tübingen).

The scientific consultant was Professor Dr. Irina Arkadyevna Arzhantseva (Russian Federation, Moscow).

The Chair of the Dissertation Committee was Professor Dr. Martin Bartelheim.

Committee members included: Professor Dr. Heinrich Härke; Professor Dr. Natascha Mehler; Professor Dr. Susanne Gräffe; Professor Dr. Raiko Krauss.

By decision of the Dissertation Council of Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Gulmira Temirbolatovna Amirgalina was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

It should also be noted that during the course of her dissertation research, G. T. Amirgalina completed research internships at the German Archaeological Institute (Germany, Berlin) on the topic of «Ancient ceramics», as well as at the Roman-Germanic Central Museum (Germany, Mainz).
