BRAIN AND BRAIN-LIKE INTELLIGENCE

During a working visit to China, a university delegation visited the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Brain Sciences (ISTBI) at Fudan University.

The institute conducts scientific research in the fields of neuroscience, artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, and biomedical data analysis, focusing on "Brain and Brain-like Intelligence". Key areas include AI for Health, brain-inspired computing, neuroengineering, cognitive sciences, and bioinformatics.

Fudan University is one of China's most prestigious higher education institutions. According to the QS World University Rankings 2026, the university ranks 30th globally (88.4 points) and 6th in the Asian region.

According to representatives of the institute, ISTBI is currently implementing over 140 major state projects, has over 1200 publications in reputable scientific journals such as Nature, Cell, and The Lancet, and collaborates with 5 major industrial partners (FAW, CSG, Jihua, Ketai, etc.).

The meeting presented:

·                Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) and neuroprosthetics;

·                Technology for simulating 100 billion brain neurons;

·                AI-based early disease diagnosis systems;

·                Neuromorphic chips and the theory of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI);

·                Applied AI solutions in healthcare.

A significant feature of ISTBI's concept is the creation of an innovative ecosystem that covers the full cycle from laboratory to clinic and from clinic to industry, rather than being limited to fundamental science alone. This direction is particularly relevant for Kyzylorda region.

In Kyzylorda region, issues of healthcare system digitalization, mental health, and early diagnosis of brain diseases are important. In this context, ISTBI technologies enable:

·                Implementation of AI-based diagnostic systems;

·                Conducting remote medical monitoring;

·                Adapting equipment for neurorehabilitation;

·                Analyzing population health data;

·                Applying brain-computer interfaces in education.

For Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, this direction opens new opportunities:

·            Implementation of educational programs in neuroengineering and BCI;

·            Development of brain simulation projects;

·            Providing students with opportunities to work on cutting-edge scientific research.

·            Establishment of a Regional Center for Medical AI.

The main goal is not just to adopt technology as a user, but to adapt it to the conditions of Kyzylorda, developing new applied solutions based on artificial intelligence and neuroscience. 🇰🇿🤝🇨🇳
