INTERNATIONAL TRAINING OF ECOINFORMATICS SPECIALISTS IS PLANNED

A master's program is being implemented, aimed at addressing pressing environmental issues in the Aral Sea basin as part of an international project for training specialists in the field of ecoinformatics.

A meeting dedicated to the development of a master's program in ecoinformatics within the Erasmus+ MECAS project was held at Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University. The program's objective is to train specialists capable of solving the region's environmental problems.

The meeting was attended by Dana Abdasheva, Vice-Rector for academic affairs; Asiya Tureniyazova, Project Coordinator and Professor at Nukus State University, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences; as well as representatives from the Aral-Syrdarya Basin Inspection, faculty, and students of the university.

The main objectives of the event were to exchange experiences, discuss project stages and milestones, and strengthen cooperation in training specialists capable of solving the region's environmental problems.

Project Coordinator Asiya Tureniyazova presented the goals and objectives of the MECAS project, as well as the specifics of the ecoinformatics master's program. She noted that this program will be implemented in only two universities of Kazakhstan: Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University.

Vice-Rector for academic affairs Dana Abdasheva emphasized the project's importance for addressing current issues in water resources and highlighted that this initiative opens new opportunities for youth studying in water management and ecology fields.

The project is being implemented with the participation of universities and partner organizations from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Portugal, Spain, and Italy. Academic mobility programs in ecoinformatics will be launched within its framework, enabling international experience exchange.

It was also announced that a modern laboratory for the ecoinformatics master's program will be opened at Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University. The laboratory is planned to be operational in the 2027-2028 academic year. A study room for the laboratory is being prepared currently. The necessary equipment will be provided within the Erasmus+ program.
