THE REGION HOSTED THE “CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION — 2026” FIRST-EVER NATIONAL REGIONAL FORUM

For the first time, Kyzylorda city hosted the national forum “Corporate Governance and Digital Transformation – 2026”. This large-scale event, organized at the initiative of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, was dedicated to discussing pressing issues related to improving corporate governance systems, accelerating digital transformation, and enhancing management efficiency.

Speakers at the forum’s official opening included Chairman of the Board - Rector Nauryzbay Baikadamov; Chairman of the Board of Directors Erlan Abil; Gul Zhusipova, Deputy Director of the Department of Digitalization and Public Services at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Zhardem Kurmankaziev, Executive Director of the Central Asian Association of Corporate Secretaries; and Zhandos Bazartay, Head of the Kyzylorda Regional Branch of the “Adilet” Party, delivered welcoming remarks, emphasizing the importance of effectively implementing corporate governance principles and digital technologies.

During the plenary session, participants engaged in a comprehensive discussion of current issues related to the digital transformation of the higher education system, the implementation of artificial intelligence, and the improvement of corporate governance. Gul Zhusipova, Deputy Director of the Department of Digitalization and Public Services at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, highlighted the key areas for implementing artificial intelligence technologies in higher education. Erlan Abil, Chairman of the Board of Directors of an educational institution, spoke about the challenges and prospects for the development of digital corporate governance at the university, while Zhardem Kurmangaziev, Executive Director of the Central Asian Association of Corporate Secretaries, delivered a presentation on the activities of the National Council on Corporate Governance.

Besides, Dauren Akshalov, advisor to the chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke about managing the risks of non-compliance with regulatory requirements and changes in anti-corruption legislation. Anar Toleubayeva, Vice Chair of the Kazakhstan Artificial Intelligence Development Association, raised the issue of creating an AI ecosystem in the country, while Marzhan Sadikova, a representative of ICFM UK Kazakhstan, presented modern approaches to internal audit and risk management in the context of digital transformation.

Furthrmore, Aziza Shugeeva, Chair of the Board of TechnoWomen, highlighted the contribution of independent directors to the development of corporate governance at universities, while Arna Kusaenova, founder of the professional association “HR SKY,” addressed issues related to the digitalization of labor relations. Nursayit Torgyn, an expert in ESG, corporate development, and risk management, discussed in detail the importance of integrating ERM, ESG, and internal control mechanisms into the risk management system at universities.

“Four thematic sessions were organized as part of the forum. The first session was devoted to modern corporate governance, while the second session discussed new approaches to internal audit and risk management. The third session focused on improving compliance systems, preventing corruption, and ensuring transparency, while the fourth session addressed topics such as digital transformation, the implementation of artificial intelligence, digital security, and the automation of management processes. “All sessions took the form of workshops, panel discussions, and experience-sharing sessions,” said Akmaral Temirova, corporate secretary of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and higher education institutions, members of boards of directors, corporate secretaries, specialists from internal audit and compliance departments, as well as representatives of government agencies, international organizations, and civil society organizations.

Following the event, the forum’s recommendations were adopted and directions for the further development of professional cooperation were identified. Participants were also presented with certificates, and a commemorative photo was taken.
