ARTIFACTS FROM ZHANKENT ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

An exhibition of historical artefacts and a photographic exhibition named "20 years under the scorching sun of Zhankent" was organised at Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University to mark the 20th anniversary of the Zhankent archaeological expedition.

The exhibition showcased a number of valuable artefacts discovered during archaeological excavations at the Zhankent site, including pottery shards, a mousetrap, various ceramic items, a hearth stand, a ceramic table, jugs, a candlestick, as well as a collection of lids, clay pots, glass beads and cowrie shells.

Besides, the photographic exhibition featured archive photographs from the years when archaeological research was being carried out at the site of Zhankent. The photographs capture the efforts of the specialists who, despite the scorching summer heat, studied the history of the ancient city and conducted archaeological excavations.

Twenty years of archaeological research have made it possible to study Zhankent as one of the key centres of medieval civilisation along the Syr Darya riverbed. Every artefact discovered during the expedition’s work represents a piece of historical heritage, offering valuable insights into the daily life, culture and crafts of a bygone era.

The exhibition, marking the 20th anniversary of the Zhankent Archaeological Expedition, has become an informative historical project which has not only honoured the selfless work of the archaeologists but has also revealed the secrets of the ancient city to the present generation.
