“65 YEARS OF MANKIND IN SPACE”: PARTICIPANTS VISITED BAIKONUR

As part of the international seminar “65 years of mankind in space”, organised by Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, a tour of the historical, cultural and educational sites in Syr Darya region was arranged for international guests and participants.

During the programme, participants visited Lake Kambash, where they learnt about the region’s natural features. They also visited the Karmakshy district museum and the Korkyt Ata Memorial Complex, which forms part of the shared spiritual heritage of the Turkic world.

One of the highlights of the trip was Baikonur city, which holds a special place in the history of global space exploration. Here, the participants visited museums and historical sites detailing the formation and development of the space industry, and learnt important facts about the history of the Baikonur Cosmodrome. As part of the programme, they also visited an open-air museum and the House of Cosmonauts.

Seminar delegates from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia and China took part in the excursion.

The trip enabled the international guests to gain a closer insight into the region’s natural features and historical and cultural heritage, as well as to explore in greater depth the significance of Baikonur in the history of humanity’s space exploration.

We would like to remind you that the international seminar “65 years of mankind in space” is taking place from September 6^th to 11^th, organised by the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University. Besides academic and informative discussions, a series of activities as part of the event is being held to get participants acquainted with the region’s historical, cultural and spiritual heritage.
