“65 YEARS OF MANKIND IN SPACE”: A COMPETITION BASED ON THE “RUSSIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE” EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

At the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, as part of the international seminar 65 years of mankind in space, a competition was held, organised by the Department of the Russian Language and Literature educational programme.

The main aim of the event was to highlight the historical and cultural significance of the first human spaceflight, to promote the scientific and literary heritage of space-related topics, and to develop creative, research, digital and intercultural skills among young people.

The event was opened by Sagat Taiman, Director of the Institute of Humanities and Education, who wished all participants, including international guests, every success.

The competitions took place across several categories. Particularly, an international recitation competition, Star Microphone, was organised, in which participants recited poems in various languages about space, Earth, the stars and humanity’s dreams.

An international intellectual and educational competition, COSMOS BATTLE: 108 minutes that changed the world, was held amongst the students. Teams demonstrated their knowledge of Yuri Gagarin’s historic flight, the Baikonur Cosmodrome, the history of space exploration, literature and Kazakhstan’s role in the space industry.

Besides, as part of the Space: A View from My Homeland hackathon, participants showcased the historical, literary and cultural characteristics of their countries in the context of space exploration by producing short videos in a modern digital format.

At the scientific and methodological seminar for teachers and lecturers, Humankind and space in the digital age: language, literature and intercultural dialogue, contemporary approaches to studying space-related topics through the prism of language, literature, education and digital technologies were discussed.

The event concluded with a reflective session entitled Voice of the Earth: a message to space. Participants shared their thoughts on the future of the planet, humanity’s responsibilities and messages for future generations.

As part of the cultural programme, students from the Russian Language and Literature programme performed the song Grass by the Home as a choir.

The international meeting brought together education, science, literature and digital creativity, providing participants with the opportunity to explore space-related topics in depth.
