JOURNALISM STUDENTS BRIEFED ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE “READING NATION” PROJECT
An awareness-raising session on the importance of the “Reading Nation” project was held at Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University for students enrolled in the “Kazakh Language, Literature and Journalism” academic programme.
During the meeting, Ualikhan Ibrayev, Vice-Rector for social and educational affairs, emphasized the role of the nationwide marathon in fostering interest in reading. According to him, reading regularly not only broadens one’s horizons but also develops an essential skill that contributes to professional growth.
“Reading books is one of the most effective ways to develop intellectual potential. It is important to make a habit of devoting at least a little time to reading every day. Consistency and willpower are the key. The reading habit developed today paves the way for becoming a qualified professional in the future”, noted the Vice-Rector.
During the meeting, Ayakoz Abdrazakova, a senior lecturer in the academic programme, also spoke about the importance of reading for future professionals. She highlighted that books play a particularly important role for journalism students by developing their critical thinking, enriching their vocabulary and improving their professional literacy. She encouraged the students to embrace reading actively.
At the end of the meeting, the students were encouraged to make reading part of their daily lives and to participate actively in the marathon held as part of the “Reading Nation” project.
