Project objective

Introduction into scientific circulation of a wide range of archaeological material from the funds of the Khorezm Archaeological and Ethnographic Expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences (HAEE) of the N.N. Miklukho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, their classification, attribution and digitization of archival photo and video materials.

Project Objectives


- To examine the theoretical and methodological foundations of the Republic of Kazakhstan's policy regarding cultural heritage located abroad.

- To develop a conceptual framework for the ethnocultural heritage of the Aral Sea region preserved in the collections of the Khorezm Archaeological and Ethnographic Expedition Archive.

- To identify archival and museum collections containing documentary materials relevant to the research topic and to develop scientific and methodological approaches for the cataloguing of archaeological collections.

- To collect and digitize archaeological materials from the Bronze Age site "Northern Tagisken Mausoleum" and the Chirikrabat culture, excavated by the Khorezm Expedition between 1951 and 1955 and currently preserved in the collections of the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow).

- To collect and digitize archaeological materials of the Jetyasar culture, excavated during the construction of the water pipeline between 1981 and 1991 and currently preserved in the collections of the State Museum of Oriental Art and the N.N. Miklukho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology.

- To prepare and publish the illustrated book-album "The History of the Khorezm Expedition's Research in the Syr Darya Region."

 

Expected Results


·       Archival and museum materials of the Khorezm Archaeological and Ethnographic Expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences, preserved at the N.N. Miklukho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEA RAS), will be collected, systematized, and analyzed.

·       A total of 800 photographic images from the archives of the N.N. Miklukho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology (IEA RAS) will be scanned and digitally processed.

·       Archaeological materials of the Jetyasar culture, preserved in the collections of the State Museum of Oriental Art and the N.N. Miklukho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, excavated during construction works between 1973 and 1991, will be processed.

·       Archival materials of the Khorezm Archaeological and Ethnographic Expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences, preserved in the collections of the State Museum of Oriental Art, will be digitized, systematized, and analyzed.

·       Archaeological materials from the Bronze Age site "Northern Tagisken Mausoleum" and the Chirikrabat culture, excavated by the Khorezm Expedition between 1951 and 1955 and preserved in the collections of the State Museum of Oriental Art, will be processed.

·       Part II of the illustrated book-album "The History of the Khorezm Expedition's Research in the Syr Darya Region" will be published.

·       At least one (1) research article or review paper will be published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) or the Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI) of the Web of Science Core Collection, and/or in a journal with a CiteScore percentile of at least 35 in the Scopus database.

·       Two (2) research articles will be published in peer-reviewed international and/or national journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education (CQASHE) of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
