Project goal

Description of the functioning of populations of birds of prey in urban habitats based on their comprehensive study data, and assessment of the extent to which the conditions of Kyzylorda are able to meet the needs of different species of falcons to form sustainable populations.

Tasks

1. Compilation of primary data.
1.1. Literary analysis of research papers;
1.2. Selection of control points;

2. Registration of birds of prey.
2.1. Observation of the population structure, features of nesting sites and feeding grounds, seasonality of presence (І);
2.2. Observation of the population structure, features of nesting sites and feeding grounds, seasonality of presence (ІI);

3. Verification of the diversity of the fauna of birds of prey at a number of control points in the urban landscapes of Kyzylorda.
3.1. Observation of the population structure, features of nesting sites and feeding grounds, seasonality of presence (I);
3.2. Observation of the population structure, features of nesting sites and feeding grounds, seasonality of presence (II);

4. Formation of a generalized model of the intra-annual distribution of birds of prey.
4.1. Observation of the population structure, features of nesting sites and feeding grounds, seasonality of presence (III);
4.2. Observation of the population structure, features of nesting sites and feeding grounds, seasonality of presence (IV);

5. Development of a digital resource of the fauna of birds of prey in the cultural landscape of Kyzylorda.
5.1. Study and comparison of the best examples of operating platforms for recording the fauna of birds of prey;
5.2. Implementation of the signal version of the geospatial platform "Fauna of birds of prey of the cultural landscape of Kyzylorda" in the global network.

Expected results

It is planned to conduct fundamental work for the ecological assessment of the spatio-temporal characteristics of biodiversity through stationary and periodic observations of the population structure, features of nesting sites and feeding grounds, seasonality of location, species richness and diversity of birds of prey (Falconiformes) of the city of Kyzylorda

As part of the implementation of this Project, it is planned to conduct comprehensive ornithological studies in the territory of poorly studied areas (the left bank of the Syr Darya River, the backwater part, the periphery) to obtain reliable data on the species composition, the population size of birds of prey in the city of Kyzylorda.

Based on the results of the conducted research, it is planned to publish at least 2 (two) articles and (or) reviews in journals from the first three quartiles of the impact factor in the Web of Science database or having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 50.

The obtained results of the project are planned to be used in the creation of the GIS "Biodiversity of the Kyzylorda Region" as a source for inventory and monitoring of the regional avifauna of the Aral Sea region.
