Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University was established on March 24, 1998, as a result of the merger of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University of Humanities and the I. Zhakayev Kyzylorda Polytechnic Institute (now Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University). Prior to this merger, the main veterans’ organization operated within the framework of the labor union. From that year onward, the university’s primary veterans’ organization was headed by Professor Aidosov Abylai Khangereyuly (November 12, 1936 – April 29, 2009). At that time, the veterans’ biographical data was entered into a computer as an electronic archive.

Starting in 2009, the university’s primary veterans’ organization was led by Professor Kazbai Kudaybergenov (March 15, 1942 – May 4, 2024). The organization’s activities were coordinated by the Veterans’ Council, whose members included Kazbai Kudaybergenov (chairman), Nurtaza Abdrakhmanov, Zhenis Saduakasov, Pajarbek Saparkhojaev, and Zinaida Seksenbaeva. The organization included the “Syr Sulu” ensemble, in which veterans performed, and the “Parasat” public association of veteran scientists.

From June 5, 2024, to May 26, 2026, the veterans’ organization was headed by Bakhyt Kaliev, Candidate of Technical Sciences and honorary professor at the university.

On the recommendation of the Veterans’ Council, the following scientists who have passed away were honored: former rectors of the Pedagogical Institute Bazarbek Oserbayev and Oralhan Kamardinov; renowned architect Malik Saparaliev; renowned mathematician and academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Asan Taymanov; and the following professors: In Kyzylorda city, streets are named in honor of the following scholars: Serikbay Koshkarov, Kylyshbay Bisenov, and Nurlybek Zhunusov; Professors: Abylai Aidosov, Slamkhan Bekbaev, Bazarbek Kashkynbaev, Abdikarim Tazhmagambetov, Abshait Orazaliev, Madi Kireev, and Zhenis Otemisov.

The following scientists were awarded the title of Honorary Citizen: Serikbay Koshkarov—of Kyzylorda city; Kylishbay Bisenov—of Zhalagash district and Kyzylorda city; Bakhitbek Seisenov—of Karmakshi district; Mustafa Mataev, Bagdat Karibozov, Baimyrza Kojamberliev— of Kazaly district; Ibadulla Tautenov— of Syrdarya district; and Bakytkhan Abdikarimov—from Zhanakorgan district.

Lecture halls and laboratories have been named in honor of our faculty members—

M. Kireev, N. Zhunisov, M. Mataev, E. Nurakhmetov, B. Kashkinbaev, K. Zhanabergenov,

H. Nugmanova, A. Ergalauova, K. Zhailybay, K. Baltaeva, T. Kuanyshbaeva, K. Kudaibergenova,
K. Saduakaskyzy, Zh. Egizbaeva, B. Kozhambarliyeva, O. Bermakhanova, A. Tapalova, B. Kultanova,
U. Zhanbershiyeva, M. Zholymbetova, etc.

The veterans’ organization operates based on a work plan for one academic year. Veterans are honored on the eve of national and professional holidays, and throughout the year they are provided with trips to health resorts.

University veterans frequently appear in the regional press and on television channels, and they actively participate in cultural and social events, meetings, and academic conferences.

Every year, competitions are organized for veterans in sports such as chess, checkers, billiards, and others.

In honor of the university’s 80th and 85th anniversaries, anthologies titled “Your legacy lives on” were published, dedicated to the memory of veterans who have passed away. Besides, a series titled “Inspiring lives” was launched to highlight the great achievements of individuals who made significant contributions to the university’s founding and development; the series features J. Saduakasuly,
B. Karibozuly, U. Bishimbayev, S. Kosharov, A. Nurgyzarinov, B. Saylybaev, K. Kudaibergenov, and
T. Karlykhanov were featured in special episodes of the “Inspiring lives” series, dedicated to highlighting the outstanding contributions of individuals who have had a significant impact on the university’s formation and development.

On May 26, 2026, Omarov Kali Abdiuly, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, recipient of the “For merit in labor” medal and the “Turan” award from the regional governor, was elected chair of the University Veterans’ Council.

Currently, the Veterans’ Organization has 369 members (108 men and 261 women), of them, 123 are employed (76% are under the age of 70).
