The interim results of the grant project were announced at the top-ranked conference on education in the USA
As part of the project "Development of linguistic and cultural competencies in the context of the internationalization of higher education", the results of the study were presented at the CIES 2024 conference.
The CIES 2024 conference is the largest platform for researchers in the field of international and comparative education. More than 3,000 participants from all over the world take part in the conference every year. Representatives of more than 1,000 universities will present cutting-edge research on various levels of education: from preschool to higher education. This is the largest platform for networking with colleagues from other universities, international organizations, and scientific institutes.
This year's theme is The Power of Protest: what contribution can education make to the development of society? What topics should we raise in education that should be reflected in society in the future? These questions were asked by the participants. The trending topics of this year's conference are gender in education, support for vulnerable students (students with disabilities, migrant students, refugee students, etc.), and the internationalization of higher education.
At our session, 3 reports were discussed: tools for measuring internationalization at the institutional level, virtual student mobility, and an overview of the push/pool factors of students leaving Venezuela and Argentina against the background of constant inflation in these countries.
During the discussion, we were asked questions and made suggestions. I want to focus on two:
- spreading the experience of virtual student mobility to other faculties and areas (except for students of foreign languages);
- development of indicators/tools for assessing students' linguistic and cultural competencies based on empirical data.
In general, the experience of participating in CIES 2024 makes us think about the potential of education to change the consciousness of society and introduce innovations. The representative of each country is concerned about a topical issue for their system. Everyone is eager to share their experiences and hear what another country is doing on this matter, in order to compare and broadcast the best experience. Such a platform is very useful for both managers and practitioners, researchers in the field of education. The most reputable educational researchers strive to present their research on this site.
In conclusion, I would like to emphasize the importance of the positive trend in the growth of science funding in the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is thanks to the systematic support of research in the field of education that we are rapidly moving towards building an evidence base for decision-making in education.
