The exhibits found in the city of Zhankent were transferred to the regional museum fund

The Scientific Center of Archeology and Ethnography of Korkyt ata Kyzylorda University has transferred to Kyzylorda Regional Museum of Local History the historical artifacts found in the city of Zhankent as a result of research conducted with the support of the Akimat of the region.

They are considered valuable samples of historical and cultural heritage. Among the 10 artifacts discovered during the excavations in 2023-2024, there are 5 ceramic and 5 stone products. The mousetrap, which is rare in Central Asia, deserves special attention among the artifacts found.

"Mousetraps" have been revealed in the region for the first time. In Kazakhstan, this product was previously found only in the ancient city of Taraz, and there are only four of them in Central Asia. Two of them were identified in the cities of Paykent and Karaultepe in Uzbekistan. There is an assumption that this trap, found in the city of Zhankent, was brought from the country of Khorezm or from the city of Taraz. Such traps were used only in the everyday life of rich people, which reflects the social characteristics of that time.

Zhankent is one of the medieval fortified towns of Syr region. The town covers an area of about 15 hectares. Its main street divides the city into two parts, and in the northwest corner there is a citadel.

This year, the excavations were carried out in two directions. The first group excavated the Northern Defensive Wall and the eastern wall of the citadel. And the second group surveyed the territory of the dwelling in the eastern part.

During the excavations, valuable data related to needlework were revealed. Some ceramic products are made by hand, and some are made on a rotating circle. These artifacts made the study of the ethnocultural and economic ties of the city possible.

The work of the research group led by Candidate of Historical Sciences Seidali Bilalov allowed us to study the medieval history of the town of Zhankent in a new way.

The transfer of historical artifacts to the museum fund will not only ensure their safety, but also create conditions for new research in the scientific community. The results of these studies are an important step towards preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the region and promoting them.
