THE PROSPECTS OF REGIONAL MEDIA WERE DISCUSSED

Within the framework of the Science Month titled "Science Will Save the World – IV", a regional scientific-practical conference on the theme "Transformation of regional media: traditional media and digital media" was held at the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University.

The event served as an important platform for defining the development directions of regional media and discussing new opportunities in the digital space.

The main goal of the conference was to create conditions for the modernization of regional press in line with contemporary requirements, enhance the quality of national and regional content in the digital space, and provide a scientific-practical justification for the transition of traditional media to the digital system. Additionally, it was intended to form a platform for professional dialogue aimed at mastering new media tools and artificial intelligence capabilities.

During the conference, reports were presented by Murat Zhetpisbayev, a special correspondent for the "Egemen Kazakhstan" regional newspaper; Zukhra Yermaganbetova, a university professor and Candidate of Philological Sciences; Akerke Zholmakhanova, a senior lecturer and PhD; Ayzhan Abdullayeva, Deputy Director of "Syr Media" LLP; and Sofia Temirbolat, a correspondent for the "Akmeshyt Aptalygy" newspaper. They comprehensively discussed the development directions of regional media and the challenges of digital transformation.

The event was attended by the university's faculty, media representatives, and students. They exchanged views on topical issues, ranging from the theoretical foundations of regional media digitalization to the application of artificial intelligence, fact-checking culture, and the preservation of national identity.

Following the conference, a number of important proposals were put forward. Particularly, it was proposed to strengthen the connection between the "Kazakh Language, Literature and Journalism" educational program and regional media editorial offices, as well as to adapt students' practical training to specific digital projects such as podcasts, data journalism, and SMM. Furthermore, the necessity of including work with artificial intelligence tools, fact-checking methodologies, and multimedia storytelling skills in the curricula for future journalists was highlighted.

"Furthermore, jointly with the Kyzylorda regional branch of the Journalists Union of Kazakhstan, it has been proposed to organize creative competitions for the formation of a regional brand, digital ethics, and fact-checking, as well as to conduct a series of regular master classes and media schools for students with the participation of experienced journalists and scientists.

The conference served as a platform for important initiatives aimed at boosting regional media for a transition to a new stage and the professional development of future journalists.
