THE SEASON’S FAVOURITES SELECTED: BEST MELONS FROM ARAL SEA REGION

Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University hosted a cultural and educational event named "Melon Party" as part of the autumn harvest celebrations, bringing together students and university staff.

The main goal of the event was to promote the region's agricultural products, introduce the unique characteristics of local melons, and engage young people—particularly first-year students—in active university life, while fostering their interest in the traditions and agricultural potential of their home region.

Ualikhan Ibrayev, Vice-Rector for social and educational affairs, gave a speech at the meeting. He noted that such events strengthen the unity of the youth, help them recognize the achievements of their region, and teach them to value local production.

During the event, various melon varieties grown in the Aral Sea region were presented, including "Myrzashol", "Ethiopka", "Sarzhau", "Kara Kulyabi", "Amire", and "Piel de Sapo". Samalbek Kosanov, a senior lecturer in the "Biology, Geography and Chemistry" program and a Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, spoke about the properties of each variety, their cultivation specifics and their adaptation to local conditions.

Participants tasted the melons and cast their votes. Based on the results, the "Piel de Sapo" kind received the highest score and was recognized as the best among the samples presented.

Nowadays, the region is actively working on expanding the range of melon crops, introducing new varieties and developing seed production. The experience of adapting varieties imported from the Netherlands, China and Spain to local climatic conditions is aimed at increasing the region's agricultural potential.

The autumn celebration concluded with a concert program prepared by the students.
