UNDP EXPERT EXPLORES KORKYT ATA UNIVERSITY’S ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

Adilet Tkenov, a UNDP expert in Kazakhstan, visited Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University to learn about the university’s initiatives in climate change adaptation, renewable energy, and water resources management.

During the visit, the expert toured the solar and wind power facility operated by the Electrical Engineering, Technosphere and Ecology Educational Program. Commissioned in 2021, the facility has increased its capacity from an initial 5 kW to 18 kW. The electricity generated is used to provide outdoor lighting for five academic buildings and the Zhiger cafeteria.

During the visit, the expert toured the solar and wind power facility operated by the Electrical Engineering, Technosphere and Ecology Educational Program. The expert also visited the teaching and laboratory complex of the Water Resources Management and Land Management Educational Program, which trains specialists at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. The laboratories are equipped with modern facilities for studying hydraulics, hydraulic structures, pumping stations, soil science, and geodesy. Students conduct practical work on the automation of water supply and sewerage systems, wastewater treatment, and the operation of pumping systems.

Besides, Adilet Tkenov visited the Water Management M. Nalibayev Museum. Opened during the 2021–2022 academic year with the support of Abzal & Co. LLP, the museum houses historical documents, works by hydraulic engineering specialists, and unique exhibits. The museum’s materials are actively used by undergraduate and master’s students in preparing research projects, theses, and dissertations.
