FINANCIAL SECURITY: STUDENTS LEARNED HOW TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM FRAUDSTERS

An information and awareness-raising session on the topic of “Financial Security” was held at Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, organized by Kyzylorda Regional Department of Economic Investigations for first-year students.

The event was attended by the university’s compliance officer for anti-corruption, the chair of the commission, Alibek Zhappasbaev; an investigator from the Department of Economic Investigations for Kyzylorda region, Maira Oralbaeva; and the department’s chief specialist, Sandugash Yerzhanova.

The main aim of the meeting was to improve students’ financial literacy, raise awareness of common types of financial fraud, explain how to protect themselves from dubious offers, and prevent young people from becoming involved in illegal financial transactions.

During the meeting, Maira Oralbayeva spoke specifically about the problem of gambling addiction. She urged students not to trust offers of “easy money” and to exercise caution regarding advertisements for bookmakers and online gambling on social media. The financial and social consequences of gambling addiction were also explained.

Besides, students were reminded of the dangers of handing over their bank cards, accounts or personal details to strangers. It was emphasized that assisting in the transfer of other people’s funds or participating in illegal financial transactions could result in criminal liability.

As part of the awareness-raising campaign, students were shown videos illustrating various types of financial fraud and were warned of the need to remain vigilant when receiving suspicious calls, messages and online offers.

Following the meeting, the students gained the necessary knowledge on how to protect themselves from fraudsters, how to respond when encountering suspicious transactions, and how to avoid becoming involved in illegal financial schemes.
