The Higher School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science of SeulTech has opened in Kyzylorda

Today, the official opening ceremony of the Higher School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science took place on the basis of the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University. The event was attended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Akim of the Kyzylorda region Nurlybek Nalibayev, representatives of the Leading University Project on International Cooperation LUPIC, faculty and employers in the field of IT.

This initiative was implemented as part of the instruction of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to open training centers in the field of artificial intelligence and conduct research in this area on the basis of three universities.

The higher school will specialize in training personnel in the field of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and computer science. Students will study according to programs developed jointly with SEULTECH, which will provide access to global IT technologies. Within the framework of the project, the university will be equipped with modern laboratory equipment from Korea, and students will be multilingual – they will study in English and Korean, fluent in Russian and Kazakh.

At the event, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek noted the importance of the project.

"President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev notes the development of artificial intelligence technologies as a strategically important direction for the future of the country. The use of artificial intelligence technologies requires special attention. Therefore, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education immediately started implementing educational programs in this area.

The opening of the SeulTech Higher School of Artificial Intelligence at Korkyt-Ata University will serve as an effective impetus for the formation of human capital in the field of IT technologies, mutual exchange of experience and scientific developments, as well as for further promotion of bilateral cooperation between Korea and Kazakhstan in the field of higher education. I also want to inform you that in the short term it is planned to open a branch and a two-degree program, as a result of which graduates will be able to receive a diploma from SeulTech and Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University," he said.

The Minister also noted in his speech that within the framework of the execution of the instructions of the Head of State K.Tokayev the past 2 years, 8 branches of leading foreign universities have been opened in Kazakhstan, such as the University of Arizona on the basis of M.Kozybayev SKU, Heriot-Watt University (Scotland) on the basis of K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University, a Consortium of German universities on the basis of Yessenov University and others. According to him, the opening of branches of foreign universities is an important step in the development of education in Kazakhstan and in striving to become a leader in higher education in the international arena.

Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, director of the Kazakhstan Center of the LUPIC project, director of the Global Security Center for Quantum Artificial Intelligence of SeulTech Jesu Kim noted that within the framework of the project it is planned not only to open a higher school, but also to create a business incubator based on Korkyt Ata University.

"I am sure that within the framework of the business incubator, Kazakhstan students will be able to develop their talents, create startups and use their knowledge to promote AI around the world," said Jesu Kim.

It should be noted that since September 2023, the language training of first-year students enrolled in IT specialties and selected for training under the SeulTech program has begun at the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University. Now they are studying general education subjects and taking accelerated language courses. In the future, students and faculty of the university will be able to go to Seoul for a scientific internship and study under the academic mobility program and joint educational programs, and teachers from SeulTech will be invited to Kyzylorda to transfer unique knowledge and technologies.

Seoul National University of Science and Technology is the National University of Korea, which was founded in 1910. The university has about 15 thousand students in 23 faculties. The history of the reburial of the remains of the national hero of Korea, General Hong Bom Do, who lived in Kyzylorda for many years, contributed to the opening of the Higher School.
