The international HORIZON-MSCA-2025 project concluded with a victory for scientists from the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University
In the context of climate change, rising sea levels, increased frequency of floods, and the degradation of aquatic ecosystems, effective water resource management has become one of the key challenges of our time. Consequently, high-quality and prompt monitoring of the aquatic environment is crucial for maintaining ecological balance and protecting water ecosystems.

The AQUADETECT project involves the creation of an innovative LIDAR optical system equipped with new-generation sensors highly sensitive to single-photon detection. According to research results, the developed sensors surpass existing commercial counterparts in photon detection efficiency by 60%. This will enable the acquisition of more accurate real-time data and the creation of three-dimensional maps of the aquatic environment.

The new technology will reduce monitoring time, lower costs, and increase the spatial accuracy of measurements. The system will find applications in various fields, such as flood risk assessment, seabed mapping, ecosystem analysis, and monitoring of underwater habitats.

Leading scientists and engineers from Portugal, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Morocco, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan are participating in the project's implementation. The results of the AQUADETECT project are expected to make a significant contribution to the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies, as well as support the European Union's initiatives for the protection and rational use of water resources.
The project leader from Kazakhstan is Professor Nurbol Appazov, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, from Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University.
