Akerke Danish: «Academic mobility is a great way to test your strengths»

A student of the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, Akerke Danish is studying at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sport within an academic mobility program.

According to Akerke’s words, her trip to Azerbaijan was not initially part of her plans. «One day, a message about the academic mobility program came into our group chat. Then my academic advisor supported me, saying, «Your abilities are enough, give it a try, test your luck». After discussing it with my parents, I made the decision to go», shares the student.

During the selection process for the program, teachers also provided her with support and necessary recommendations. «Although gathering documents seemed difficult at first, if you do everything step by step, it's not complicated. The university administration also provided great assistance», says Akerke.

When Akerke first arrived in Azerbaijan, the new environment seemed unfamiliar, but the warm attitude of the people eased her adaptation period. «People are very open-minded and always ready to help. Once, a stranger not only showed me the way but also accompanied me to my destination. This moment is particularly etched in my memory», she remembers. The student also noted the specifics of the educational process at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sport.

«Some classes here are held outdoors. For some subjects, students are given the opportunity to work in a free-choice mode. Classes are conducted in a traditional format, some in Azerbaijani, others in Russian», Akerke explains. The material and technical base of the educational institution is also at a high level. «A large library, spacious lecture halls. Overall, the conditions are very good», the student notes.

In their free time from studies, Azerbaijani students enjoy participating in various cultural events, competitions and going for walks. Akerke also made new friends and had the opportunity to get to know the country's culture more closely. «Adapting to the language and environment initially presented some difficulties, but due to daily communication, I quickly got used to it. I saw a new country and discovered a different side of myself. This experience has given me more self-confidence», she says. Akerke also doesn't hide that she particularly enjoyed the local dishes – dolma and kebab.

In addition, she expressed her intentions to continue her education abroad for a master's degree. «Don't be afraid, believe in yourself! Academic mobility is the best way to test yourself and to open new opportunities», - she concluded.
