CYBER HYGIENE AND DIGITAL CULTURE — THE SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOUNDATION
As part of Cyber Culture Month, announced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a series of informative lectures on cyber security was organised for first-year students.
The main aim of the event was to foster a culture of digital safety among students, prevent online threats and develop practical skills for protecting personal data.
During the lectures, the university’s information security officer, Zhussip Dauletbay Doszhanuly, informed students about the types of threats they face in their everyday digital lives and how to protect themselves against them.
Particular attention was paid to creating strong passwords, using two-factor authentication (2FA), recognising suspicious links and messages, and methods of protecting against fraud based on social engineering techniques. Besides, clear guidance on how to recognise the actions of cybercriminals posing as bank staff, law enforcement officers or telecoms operators was provided, and what security measures should be taken when receiving suspicious calls.
The meeting also featured detailed discussions on the responsible use of social media, the legal consequences of posts, comments and shares, as well as the requirements of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s legislation on the protection of personal data.
Such kind of awareness-raising initiatives in the areas of cybersecurity, digital literacy and information literacy among students will continue to be fulfilled on a regular basis.
